DuckHunting

Belly Up!

Why do I like duck hunting so much, well I had one guy tell me its more about fellowship with your buddies than killing ducks. I have to agree. I spend a lot of weekends with friends and family sitting in a blind shooting the shit and ducks.

I enjoy eating ducks. Some people say they can't eat them. Just too dark or tastes like liver. I don't like liver, but I sure enjoy my duck. You can read about the way i like to cook them in the RECIPES section.

Some folks call it a sport. I call it a way of life. I can go out with friends, enjoy a few hours, and bring home a meal ready to eat. I raised my son and daughter hunting. They both enjoy it (just look at my sons face in the picture!) My son turned me on to duck hunting after he went with some of his high school pals. I wish I'd started earlier with that one! I wouldn't trade anything for the time we spend in a blind together. Now my brother and his son go also. It's great!

Here are a few things I learned my first few times out: DON'T SHOOT that one. It's not a duck. Or it taste like crap. I will not shoot a duck that I won't eat, intentionally.

You need to learn the species or what kind of duck you're shooting at. Some taste better than others. Some are protected, and others have limits. The GAME WARDEN thinks it's important. Along with 100s of biologist and other people that keep count of how many there really are.

There are many clubs and organizations out there that are there to help and educate you. They are also providing services to protect NATURE. I want to protect ducks! Even though I think they taste good. Protecting the ducks means protecting the habitat they live in. WATER. We all have to have it.

Back to the organizations that protect them. DUCKS UNLIMITED is probably the largest. I belong to my local chapter. Great people and a great place to learn. Make friends with these guys and gals and you could get invited to a hunt. Who wants to go to the same place every time, right?

Duck hunting. IT'S A BLAST! (All puns intended.) Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog and website! We want to hear about your adventures too! Let us know in the comments or email! Why do you go hunting? How was your last trip out? Did you eat well that night? Who do you like to go hunting with? Have a favorite gun, blind, decoy? How many decoys do you put out?

All of this information can help the next guy.
